I’ve worked in recruitment for 30 years, although like many people in the industry, I found it completely by accident. After leaving the military, I walked into a recruitment agency without really knowing what they did, was offered an onsite role, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Over the years, I’ve recruited across Industrial, Commercial, Engineering and just about everything else. I've also spent 25 of those years as a Branch Manager, working with high-volume operations, unionised sites, and businesses with complex recruitment requirements.

One of the biggest highlights of my career was securing a major automotive contract, but one placement has always stayed with me. Helping a scientist relocate to join a global healthcare company was incredibly rewarding, knowing I'd played a part in changing someone's career and life.

What I enjoy most about working at Swift Temps is that it feels like a breath of fresh air. The team has been fantastic, and there's a real sense of trust that allows you to get on with your job while knowing you've got support around you.

My approach has always been built around three things: job fit, company fit, and boss fit. Get those right and you've got every chance of making a successful placement. I believe the best recruitment starts with listening, understanding both the client and the candidate, and putting yourself in their shoes so you can offer the right support and advice.

For me, recruitment has always been about making a difference. Whether it's helping someone start work immediately or supporting someone who's been made redundant, knowing that I've helped take away some of that worry makes every day worthwhile. If I can go home knowing I've made a positive difference to someone's life, I'll always leave with a smile. (Although having a Starbucks across the road certainly helps!)

Candidate care has always been at the heart of how I work. Without candidates, none of us would have a job, so I've always believed in treating people the way I'd want to be treated myself.

Building long-term relationships comes from being someone people can rely on. By being supportive, working as part of a team, and taking the time to understand people, those relationships naturally grow.

The most satisfying part of recruitment? Honestly... all of it. I genuinely love what I do.

Name: Toby Haley

Experience & Background

I’ve been in recruitment since November 2025. Before that, I worked in retail management, where I saw first-hand how important it is to have the right people in the right roles. That experience made me want to move into recruitment and play a part in helping people find the right positions for them.

While I haven’t settled into a specific sector yet, my background is in hospitality and retail. I also brought interviewing experience from Tesco, along with knowledge of managing shift cover and compliance, including working with international students.

One of my most rewarding placements was the first role I managed from start to finish with a large logistics company; sourcing candidates, speaking with them, onboarding them onto the system, and booking their induction with the client. Being able to tick off every stage of the process and see people successfully start their roles was a great feeling.

As a Recruitment Consultant, I focus on keeping communication open and honest. I make sure candidates and clients have my direct number and know they can call if there’s ever an issue. If something does arise, I follow up to ensure the situation is properly resolved.

I really value how welcoming Swift Temps is as a company. From the MD down, everyone is approachable and supportive; questions are encouraged, not treated as inconveniences. That culture carries through into how we treat our candidates too, with open and honest discussions at every stage.

When it comes to matching candidates with clients, I listen carefully, not just to what’s said, but to the subtext of what a client is really looking for. I try to understand both expectations and company ethics to make sure the fit is right on both sides.

Passion for People & Recruitment

Let’s be honest, money is a motivator, but beyond that, what keeps me driven is being part of a team that genuinely supports each other, cooperates when challenges arise, and works well together.

Candidate care matters to me because I’ve been on the other side of the process. I know how disheartening it can be to not receive feedback or hear anything after applying for a role. That’s why I make a point of keeping communication clear and consistent.

Building long-term relationships comes down to listening, remembering the little details, and being genuine. The most satisfying moment is always calling someone to let them know they’ve landed the job… that never gets old.

• Proudest achievement? Securing a permanent role for a candidate who initially joined as a Christmas temp
• If I could swap jobs for a day… I’d like to swap with Nik or Adam and see the financial side of things, I really enjoy working with numbers and a spreadsheet so I imagine it would be satisfying (provided all the compliance and bank details are correct!)
• What would colleagues say about me? He’s dead easy going, makes a good brew (or at least tries to), enjoys football and Pokemon
• Tea or coffee? Coffee in the morning and tea in the afternoon/evening. I have a milky coffee and a strong tea with 1 sugar (2 if I’m needing the energy)

I’ve worked in recruitment for 13 years, having first entered the industry through an apprenticeship. What started as an opportunity to learn quickly became a career that has allowed me to work across a variety of sectors and build long-lasting relationships with clients and candidates alike.

Throughout my career, I’ve specialised in Student Accommodation, Facilities Management, Engineering, and Industrial recruitment. These sectors have given me the opportunity to work with a wide range of businesses and develop a strong understanding of the challenges they face.

One of the most rewarding projects I’ve worked on was developing national supply agreements with three of the largest student accommodation companies in the UK. Seeing those relationships grow and deliver results on a national scale was a real career highlight.

Before joining Swift Temps, I brought with me 13 years of recruitment experience and, if you ask me, a dazzling personality too.

What I enjoy most about working at Swift Temps? Toby. On a more serious note, I enjoy being part of a business where the systems, processes, and compliance are already in place, allowing consultants to focus on delivering the best possible service.

I help clients and candidates by taking the time to listen. Understanding the challenges people are facing is the first step to finding a solution that works for everyone involved. Recruitment works best when both sides feel they've achieved a positive outcome.

When it comes to matching clients and candidates, I believe it starts with understanding. Understanding the role, understanding the business, and understanding what a candidate is looking for. Once you have that information, you have a much better chance of finding the right fit.

I've never been very good at sitting still, so recruitment suits me perfectly. The pace, the variety, and the constant opportunity to solve problems are what keep me motivated.

Candidate care is important because everyone deserves to be treated properly and given the opportunity to succeed. Sometimes all someone needs is the right opportunity and a bit of support to help them get there.

Building long-term relationships comes from getting to know people properly. Taking an interest in who they are, what they need, and what matters to them helps create trust and stronger partnerships.

The most satisfying part of recruitment is either delivering an offer to a candidate or finding that elusive "needle in a haystack" candidate that perfectly matches a client's requirements.

Experience & Background

I’ve worked in recruitment for three years now, specialising in engineering roles. I got into the industry looking for a new challenge. When I first started, I didn’t really know what an agency did, but I quickly found my place and passion.

Before joining Swift Temps, I spent three years as a Talent Acquisition Executive focused on engineering, which gave me a great foundation for building technical candidate networks and understanding what clients need from a recruiter.

One of my proudest placements was sourcing a fabricator welder with a unique skillset (MIG & TIG, and experience with plastic welding) for a client based in a remote area. It took time, but I made it happen.

I love the relationship-building side of recruitment. I’m always out attending client meetings and getting to know their environments, which really helps me match candidates more effectively. I also enjoy learning the sales side of the business, especially working with new clients and growing our reach.

Passion for People & Recruitment

I come to work for the buzz in the office and the feeling of making a difference. There’s always something going on and a good laugh to be had. I won’t go into detail about the sweetcorn explosion, but needless to say the laughs were just as big as the mess!

Candidate care is personal to me. I understand how tough it can be to be out of work, especially with the current cost of living. I want my candidates to feel they can speak with me at any time and trust I have their best interests at heart.
